Chronic feeding exposure to virgin and spiked microplastics disrupts essential biological functions in teleost fish

چکیده
Toxicity of polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) microplastics (MPs), either virgin or spiked with chemicals, was evaluated in two short-lived fish using a freshwater species, zebrafish, marine medaka. Exposures were performed through diet environmentally relevant concentrations MPs over 4 months. No modification classical biomarkers, lipid peroxidation, genotoxicity F0 behaviour observed. A significant decrease growth reported after at least months exposure. This similar between independent from the type polymer presence not but much stronger females. The reproduction it revealed reproductive output for both species far more serious numbers PVC appeared reprotoxic than PE as PFOS benzophenone-3 compared to benzo[a]pyrene. Further, PVC-benzophenone-3 produced behavioural disruption offspring larvae. These results obtained representing different aquatic environments suggest that exert toxic effects, slightly according polymers sorbed which may lead all cases ecological disruptions.

MicroRNA in Teleost Fish
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulators involved in nearly all known biological processes in distant eukaryotic clades. Their discovery and functional characterization have broadened our understanding of biological regulatory mechanisms in animals and plants. They show both evolutionary conserved and unique features across Metazoa. Here, we present the current ...
متن کاملOyster reproduction is affected by exposure to polystyrene microplastics.
Plastics are persistent synthetic polymers that accumulate as waste in the marine environment. Microplastic (MP) particles are derived from the breakdown of larger debris or can enter the environment as microscopic fragments. Because filter-feeder organisms ingest MP while feeding, they are likely to be impacted by MP pollution. To assess the impact of polystyrene microspheres (micro-PS) on the...
متن کاملAssessment of exposure to lead through air and biological monitoring in a lead and zinc mine
Background and aim: Lead is ubiquitous and one of the earliest metals discovered by the human. This metal is widely used in different industries due to its important physico-chemical properties like softness, high malleability, ductility, low melting point and resistance to corrosion. Lead absorbed in body with several routs and when transfer in blood is primarily in red blood cells. Human exp...
